Im having some trouble near my dads opinion. He sent me to amend the ballast of some flourecent light fixtures. However once i changed the ballast like peas in a pod problems continued with the lights they any did not turn on or glowed terribly dim. I told this to my dad and he says I did the electrics wrong even though there is no TRUE way to screw that up. I believe that since the lights did not work next to neither the old or up to date ballast then it must be a problem next to the fixtures. But my dad is adamant that it is a problem next to the ballast or the way I wired it. Who is wrong here or is here something I am missing?
Answers: I remember having this problem a long time ago. I changed a ballast and the bulbs still didn't fire. An hoary timer electrician told me to exchange the hot and ground wires and see what happens. I did, and the lights lit up. Don't ask me why that worked, as you know it shouldn't put together a difference in AC current, but it did. I am not an electrical swing, and those I have asked something like this could not explain it either, I only know it worked in that situation. Try it and see what happen, you can't hurt anything.
could be the terminals the bulbs hook into are adjectives, check em
could be bad bulbs if you didnt put spanking new ones in near the new ballasts
