My Central A/C Unit on the Outside is not working but inside it does. What could it be and could I run the inside component on Fan?
loose or broken lead inside the unit 200 dollar fix unless your handy of late do it yourself its probly yellow
First check the fuses or circuit breakers to the outside part.
There may be some in the disconnect box located by the element.
Outdoor units are powered separately from the indoor part.
The thermostat is powered by the indoor unit and sends control voltage to the outdoor part. You can usually hear a slight hum in the outside part energizing the contactor. That would tell you the problem is surrounded by the 220 volt wiring or no power to the element.
If it's tripping the breaker or fuses there is something that wants to be looked at, probably just wants maintenance.
Answers: These are some reasons why the outside component will not come on
1. no power to unit( it coult be either a fuse or breaker)
2. no 24 volts ( open out the electrical section of part and check if the contactor is made)
3.burn capacitor.
4. burn wire
5. large pressure, low pressure swiitch(its a switch that its installed either within the suction line or discharge stripe if you have one hit the button, probable motivation for that to happen dirty filter or evap. coil.)
I need some more information - is your component cooling the house - are there any noise at all coming from the section? Check out http://tomsheating.org/faq.aspx - there are some really informative FAQ's for homeowners.
The best article to do is to contact a trained technician to check out the problem. You don't want to void any warranty on your equipment by jacklegging it.
you can run the admirer.
1st check to see if your breaker is on.
then listen to see if your contactor is humming on the outside element. if not, within sa problem in your 24 v from your stat to inside component or your furnace to your ac.
it could be your capacitor. it will probably be bubbled on top if it went bleak.its the cylidical silver thing strapped to the service creek.
if all those things check out ok, it may be a fruitless compressor, but call someone if the priors check out fine.
ps, see the capacitor, it holds a charge. must discharge by crossing terminals beside insulated screwdriver when disconnect is pulled/
