We live in a tri-level house. Our underground store is finished and it's where we spend most of our time. Behind our couch within the corner it's damp and the wall is moldy, plus near is a musty smell. We have have alot of rain. Would a dehumidifier support to dry out and get rid of the musty smell? How big of one should I grasp and where should I place it (next to the couch where on earth the problem is) also are there any alternatives?
Answers: A dehumidifier will serve and it doesn't matter too much where on earth you place it. Find the source of the water and fix that. The most adjectives problem is ground next to the house that slopes toward the house fairly than away from it. Builders often do not suitably compact the ground next to the vault wall and settling leads to a slope toward the house. Gutters that do not drain properly or downspouts not directed away from the house satisfactorily are another problem.
Was the basement EVER dry? Your house would not be the first to own been built on a spring or matured creek bed. In that case, nearby will be very expensive work required that roughly involves putting an underfloor ditch around the perimeter next to a pump and well surrounded by a deeper part to acquire rid of the water.
What probably have happened is by it raining so much the wood contained by your house has probably destabilized you probably need to call for a carpenter to see what is going on. I really don't think a dehumidifier will back the situation. Until a carpenter comes out I would just achieve some carpet freshner and baking sodar and put it on the hearth rug to get rid of the musty smell. Then another alternative is try pipe your windows to consent to fresh air come surrounded by after you put the carpet freshner down that will relieve
