We have a small 900 something sqft house and on Christmas morning my daughters bedroom stove (one of those terrible wall space heaters that hadn't be used in over a year) settled that it would turn on and her dresser was sitting contained by front of it. Thank God she was sleeping within her brothers room and there wasn't much surrounded by the way of flames but we do hold some smoke damage. We didn't call for the fire department as it was Christmas and we have it under control but I reflect we're going to need to report a claim with our Renters insurance. I'm not sure we'll know how to get the smoke smell out of her mattress, clothing and runner. Has anybody ever delt with something similar to this? Where do I start. We live in Oregon if that help for anyone wondering about state guidelines and such.

Answers: Some items next to smoke damage might not be capable of recover, and it might own been clever to atleast file a claim, next to the walls use killz but with an grease based primer so killz orignal would do the trick its a bit messier than latex but that contained by your case it the best bet to stamp it off and block the oder and top coat it next to any paint .....doing this should make a big difference mat if its not burn't try using a deep cleaning mat machine you can pick up at any hardware type store those are correct cleaners with deorizers within and try that carpet freshner stuff if that doesnt work the hearth rug might have to travel.Not sure on what could be used with clothing besides wash a few times, and dont know anything for the bed you might beable to use the carpet cleaner attachments on at hand but other than that, thats adjectives i can come up with well brought-up luck.
If you did not call the fire department consequently you may not be able to claim this on your renters insurance. Most insurance carrier have fire verbs up services to salvage what can be salvaged and the chemicals to do it. You can use Nozone or other odor neutralizers on the mattress and permit it air outside, weather permit. You will be able to bath the clothing and may have to use fragrant laundry soap and wash several times. You can try a pet stain/odor neutralizer on the hearth rug but the smoke is most likely into the filling and floor underneath and you may have to replace the runner and padding as resourcefully as the mattress if you cannot get the smoke out of it. Keep surrounded by mind that most renter/landlord contracts require that the lessee report any damage to the rental property so if your proprietor finds out there be an unreported fire they can evict you if they want and charge you for any damages.
