Mercury lights? I have a mercury buoyant on the back of my house....
I have a mercury buoyant on the back of my house. Recently it be blinking on & off so I changed the bulb. It feathery comes on at dark but it's making a loud humming sound-it's so loud it keep me awake. What could be wrong with this hurricane lantern?
Answers: Mercury light bulbs are avaiable within many wattages.
Are you sure you've put contained by the correct wattage lamp?
The humming is the transformer/ballast that's inside the fixture. If it doesn't stop these parts can be replaced, but it will be cheaper to replace the in one piece fixture.
It's probably going bad...and will have need of to be replaced. Keep your new bulb as a spare though. An electrician or someone else who know what they're doing can replace that in smaller number than an hour. You should also be able to buy you a exotic Mercury Vapor Light at just nearly any hardware store. Best of luck to you.
