McCulloch 2-stroke chainsaw won't start? This chainsaw hasn't been running for at least possible 10 years....
This chainsaw hasn't been running for at least possible 10 years. The carb has be cleaned out and everything but it will not start. I haven't tried it for months now but i believe it wasn't getting any spark whatsoever. Maybe its the ignition or magneto entry? That part of the engine isn't my specialty but i've be told my points might need sand? I think i enjoy to take the flywheel bad to do so correct me if i'm wrong. And also could this have to do next to the gap between the flywheel and the magneto if thats what its call?
Answers: Are you sure it has points? They haven't be used in relatively some time. If you have wires coming out from lower than the flywheel it may have points. You can check the spark by removing the sparkplug, reattach the flex and ground the plug to metal. Pull the rope and watch for spark. The aperture between the flywheel and the ignition module is not that important so long as at hand is a gap.
The carburetor is the most plausible cause of the problem. It should be removed, taken apart and soaked contained by a good carb cleaner. You will requirement to get the brand and model numbers stale the carb to order a rebuild kit. Anything short of a go back to the beginning is a waste of time. Those diaphrams after 10 years are had it anymore. The bottom diaphram is the fuel pump. So if it is old and cracked you will bring no fuel. Also there is a fuel filter on one of the two fuel lines inside the fuel container. With a hooked piece of wire, fish it out and replace it.
Even if you own to replace the ignition module, you should still rebuild the carburetor. While you own the saw apart inspect/replace fuel lines and bar grease lines.
My mc culloch lasted around 10 years. The coil finally went out. I granted it had served me in good health. I laid it to rest in a scrapyard and bought a Stihl. I love it.
You can check for spark near an inline tester.
Yes, take out the flywheel. see the magnets on it thats where on earth you sand. You should get some class of spark.
If it hasn't been run within 10 years, likely the diaphragm within the carb is shot. Rebuild kit is cheap. Good luck near that one.
Remember, gas + spark = fire.
