I have an elder (and great!) Maytag washer--about 20 years old, just this minute rebuilt. I be washing a unbelievably heavy hip bath rug (maybe too heavy) and the machine a short time ago up and stopped at the beginning of the rinse cycle. The tub is full of river and it is doing nothing. And even when I turn the dial adjectives the way around again and try to restart it, nil happens. It is almost as though the power to it go out, but I checked the breaker box and all is OK nearby. Is there some sort of re-set button somewhere?? The guy who rebuild it is not answering my phone messages (maybe out of town for the holidays) and we oh so need a wash machine TODAY!! thankfulness, Susan
Answers:    Hi,

Check to see if you can hear the lid switch click on and off as you overt and close the lid.

If the switch is working you should be able to hear it click on and rotten.

If you can not hear it then you will requirement to replace the lid switch.
HMMMM, sounds funny that it wont do anything...are you sure the breaker didn't throw and the lever just didn't click over? If it be a matter of over loading it may hold gotten hot and triggered the motor's thermal protection device, if that is the shield just dally till it cools down ( and it may take a while ) and try again. if here is any doubt as to your breaker, try an extension cord if you have one handy....The with the sole purpose other thing I can ponder of is maybe the timer have gone out... surely the motor was replaced so I doubt it is impossible...good luck !
