Light fixture stopped working. Replaced bulb, no go. Behind fixture are two-three strand cable. White, black, ground. With voltmeter on white and ground, 110v. With voltmeter on black and ground, 110v. With voltmeter on white and black, 0v. All readings taken from the pigtails. Suggestions as I know nought about electrical system. Thanks in mortgage.
Answers: Do you happen to enjoy a light switch that you don't know what it controls? Or the black or the white flex is a constant hot. My best guess is that someone had a follower instead of a normal pallid fixture and rather than shifting the wiring, they in recent times used what wires they had. The black cable is probably connected to the switch, the white is probably a constant hot and the ground wire is in truth a neutral. The origin you get 0 volts from black to white is because they are on one and the same phase. You should change it support to the correct wiring at the switch, later your wiring at the standard lamp will be correct
you have a dull fault phone call an electrician, neutral fault can be an SOB to sort out. In effect a neutral error will give you 2 lives a bit than 1 live & 1 neutral needed to take home the light work.
