I am an electrician.Sometimes I am tasked with putting a dimmer on an existing low voltage (with a ballast). There are dimmers for electronic ballasts, and in attendance are dimmers for magnetic ballasts. In direct to "get" the right type of dimmer I need to know how I would jump about describing an electronic ballast from a magnetic ballast.

How would I run about relating one from the other?
USA Len B is correct - the label on electronic ballasts state that they are electronic ballasts. They are smaller than regular ballasts, and lighter. If the label on the ballast does not state it IS electronic, it isn't.

I agree with "len b"
No electrician know it all
Its impossible to know everything within the electrical field, because its so diversed.
I've be an electrician for 22 years now and didn't know this answer.
Most of my experience be in the industrial side of it, working surrounded by refineries, co-generation plants, chemical plants, grease platforms, etc...
This question be interesting to me.
I give you a thumbs up.
Answers:    The electronic ones are lighter in bulk and are definitely characterized as "electronic". They are also quiet and work contained by lower temperatures unlike regular ones.

PS. don't remuneration attention to smart Alec's who think every one should know it adjectives. I have a truism I used to use with my kids. "If you know it adjectives, you aren't going to learn any more". Think almost it. Have a good daylight.
