Were buying a home and the owner is installing an above ground oil cistern. They are purchasing a steel one. Are they ok? it would be placed on the side of the house. Is fiberglass better?
Answers: An all-steel tank is commonly used, but in attendance are disadvantages to using it. For one thing, the interior surfaces can rust and the resulting sludge can clog filter. A relatively new type of cistern is steel with a polyethylene inner liner, which eliminate that problem. Here's how the two types compare:

Local regulations may determine what type of tank you can use.
I agree near Bare B. Steel will stand much more abuse than fiberglass. Unless you are within an area where on earth there are regulations prohibiting above groune tank, that is the passageway to go. Easy to move, remove and check for leak. Good luck.
