I have a GE over the list microwave. The darn thing won't produce any warmness, but the power (lights, buttons, fan etc) work only fine. Is there any hope? Or is it shaving?
Answers: There are a number of things that could do the problem including magnetron, transformer, circuit board or interlock switch. You didn't say how frail the unit is but GE did hold an issue with their boards for a while on some models. I know I replaced the board three times surrounded by my parents' unit beforehand they decided to replace it. As you hold power coming in (lights, adherent, etc) its not the fuse. Tough call as to what to do. I stopped repairing microwaves 5 years ago because it be cheaper to buy a new one than to repair. (A magnetron for a $99 microwave costs $ 250. Go integer!) If its anything more than a switch its probably cheaper to replace it. There are four switches on the latching unit one of which is a shorting switch if in that is a door problem That will blow the fuse and disable the machine. The other three are interlocking which control amoung other things, the heat. If you're handy and have a meter, you might know how to trace the switches. Make sure you unplug it first though...OK?
scrap, if the radiation is not giving anymore boil off some electrics might be fallen past its sell-by date if your microwave is old, best bet is to purchase a different one.
