Air stopped working. Had someone I know come out and check the unit. The capacitor was bulging so it have gone bad. He put a new one up at hand however it was not the same MFD as what be originally on there. The unit worked for five minutes and stopped again. He said itwas the follower motor becuse he said he smelled it burning. He tried again and sparks flew from around the capacitor. My question is can it be that the reason adjectives of this is happening is because the capacitor was not the correct MFD? This human being is not a person who works on units except at there job that have lower voltage units. We replaced the fan motor smaller amount than two years ago. The capacitor was not changed. Hope this is enough info.
good grief, obviously the cap should be the same rating as the outmoded one. more imporatntly however, you are risking the fan motor by running it with a desperate or a undersized cap. the purpose of the cap is to serve the fan start. the motor draws too many amps and get hot. quit playing around and get the right cap installed or you will burn up your follower, if it isnt already fried.
also, if i remember right, some fan relays energize the sunhat at start up and once fan starts open and drop trilby out of circuit. so the cap could be staying in the curcuit. i'd enjoy to look that up but i think thats one way some unit work. GL with it, but becareful and dont do anymore harm to your adherent motor!
Every motor that requires a capacitor have its OWN MFD ratings. If you replace the motor it is cheap insurance to put in a new capacitor also. If the volt span is different it MUST be higher. The MFD could be different but by no more than 10%of the motors ratings. The wrong capacitor WILL burn out one or more windings surrounded by the motor. The mfd number is important and the replacement capacitor should have be the same or very close to the antediluvian one. Try a new capacitor.
Answers: if the admirer motor was changed 2 years ago it should not break down this quick when replacing the capacitor it should be beside exact rating as the one u r replacing. if is a lower mfd its not going to help the fan motor
