last year around sept. our electricity go out around four times. after the forth time the AC stopped working. we called the electric company and they said that in attendance was no away that it could be their defect. we just not long got the ac fixed (it be the compacitor) and after two days of it working again it blew a braker. we have make out our lights in the house serging and blowing when we turn them on. is it possible that this could be an electric problem and not an ac problem? and if it is what could it be?
Answers: Yes. Voltage fluctuations can desecrate A.C. units.
At low voltage, the component draws more amperes and overheats.
It would take a terribly severe over-voltage to damage
the capacitor though.
When you complain to the Utility mention that the
lights are 'surging'.
It should attain their attention.
It sounds like your have rolling brownouts and yes this can damage electrical devices, PC's, Plasma TV's etc.
I enjoy battery backup on my PC's, Plasma TV, fax machine, cable modem and adjectives my network devices.
I don't own them on my central AC or trunk appliances. The cost is prohibative.
If you want to learn more do a dig out on "brownouts vs. blackouts" It explains that a short blackout is preferred because it does not do the damage done when appliances are run on smaller number than appropriate power.
