Is it possible to use a gfci on an ungrounded (2 wire) circuit? A section of my house is elder and wired with 12/2...

A section of my house is elder and wired with 12/2 next to no ground. I want to put ground fault interrupter outlets within a bathroom, but don't know if there is a type of gfci that will work lacking the third ground wire.
Yes you can cable it up without a ground. It will work properly as a GFCI but will still be ungrounded. You are supposed to put a sticky label on the outlet saying it is ungrounded (there are stickers that come near the GFCI outlets). This does meet code.

OK even tho i never did that a friend and i be talking
he mentioned that replacement be in the NEC code book
but that convo be about two years ago codes are up dated
every even year or every two years if you ask me I enunciate its safe
but if you be a customer i would find a ground for you and
take it at hand and the kitchen
there is an flowing way to see if the metal box is ground worthy
touch meter organize to the box the other to the hot
if you get 120v or close lately connect a wire green from the box
to the ground on the GFI
and do not do what the first guy said that is to say ilegal and for a reason a dangerious serge lighting or what ever must budge towards ground . electricity travels the path of lowest resitance
if some thing happen some thing may bring back damaged
Answers:    As I deduce it, the only approved track to do this is to replace the existing circuit breaker with a breaker next to a ground-fault interrupter built in. If you own a copy of the NEC, look at section 406.3(D)(3). "A non¨Cgrounding-type receptacle(s) shall be permitted ... a GFCI breaker SHALL be installed[.]"
