Is it okay to use a 75 watt pale bulb surrounded by a fixture that say 60 watt max? ...

Answers:    The rating has do beside heat. Not current (wattage). The one answer that stated it will singular use sixty watts it wrong!!

The higher a wattage bulb, the more grill. Wire insulation is rated for how hot it can take. Go higher and you risk melt the insulation off the wires contained by the fixture and this will cause a fire.

Yes in that are safety magins designed surrounded by and as the one person said it's one and only 15 watts. But put that in perspective to be precise 25 percent higher than the rating.

Do you really want the risk? Use a compact flouresent for more wispy. Todays CF bulbs are a lot smaller than the behind the times ones and will fit most fixtures.
it's not a good impression...thats how houses get adjectives down.....
