under my sink I hold an electrical outlet one plug is the garbage disposal and one is the dishwasher. Can i buy a plug splitter so I can make the addition of an another outlet? I want to put a mini ice originator down there. I be thinking of just a calorific duty extenstion cord type thing?
You should purchase a quad (4) plex outlet for this application but DO make it a GFIC protected outlet and that the circuit breaker will accommodate adjectives appliances (amps)... A GFIC is the outlet that has the little test/reset button on the item that is required surrounded by wet work areas i.e. bathrooms...
Do be aware that your dishwasher will use simply
about the maxiumum size of the circuit.
A circuit breaker will 'ride through' a short term
overload, such as that applied by the few second
the garbage disposal might be used surrounded by conjunction
with the dishwasher, but a long residence load, (like
your ice-maker), might exact the breaker to trip out.
Answers: The partition of the outlet for the disposal is on a switch for the disposal and will not work for the icemaker. A splitter will be satisfactory if plugged into the unit for the diswasher.
