Is it risk-free to install a compact fluorescent desk light bulb contained by an roofed fixture? ...
Answers: Read the UL listing information on the box when buying them. Don't help yourself to advise from the guessers on HomeABC.net. Those lamp do run cooler on the glass element, but the base where on earth the ballast is located gives rotten heat. I own seen the basis burned black and charred, looking a lot similar to a fire. They are great energy saver but a fire will negate any savings.
Here is a association and an excerpt from an interesting web site:

High wattage compact fluorescent should not be used within recessed ceiling fixtures nor in small sheltered fixtures unless the bulb is specifically rated for such use. Heat buildup within recessed ceiling fixtures and in small roofed fixtures can easily overheat compact fluorescent, especially of wattage's over 20 watts.
i don't regard as this will be a problem fluorescent lights tend to give past its sell-by date less bake if that is what you be thinking
