We have be told that we need to replace our buried copper pipe from our propane reservoir to our house with black iron pipe because buried copper is no longer contained by code. How do I find out what is right and what is wrong?
Answers: I really think you enjoy been told wrong.
The iron pipe would hold to be coated. Copper doesn't need to be.
Maybe within your area. LP have a sulfur content, but very inlikely.
Call your local LP supplier. They will know
Unless the code have changed lately this is incorrect. Copper is not approved by code for natural gas and have not been for several years. LP gas however as far as I know of is still approved to be used surrounded by copper. The size of the line from reservoir to home may be too small but that can be rectified next to a second stage regulator at the home and run 10 pounds pressure from tank to house regulator inlet. Maybe someone requests your copper line for unwanted items. A lot of copper theft around here. And consequently again maybe someone have just jump the gun. Ask some local LP gas retailers. They wont mislead you and will give it to you straight. Now I'm speaking of the National fuel gas code. If your state have outlawed copper Id like to know and if you can find out, why.
