cost effective to grasp a pellet stove and use that for my primary source of heat. I use 1100 gallons of fuel for the heat season. I have a two story home and would put the pellet stove within the living room so it would heat the 2nd floor also.
Answers:    i work for a fuel grease company and hear that same question myself everyday. i simply purchased one last week due to the prices. my thought be that anything to try and supplement the heat would be a retrenchment considering next year the prices are supposed to be worse. on a comparison co-worker put one surrounded by last year who burned around 1500 gallons and finishing season burned only 300 gallons and burned 3 ton of pellet. as for price it was cheaper but a bit work involved due to the weekly cleaning of the unit
Depending on where on earth you are, a heat pump would be a much better concept. Check with your local electric utility just about special rates and operating costs.
Pellet stoves are a pain. You would own to run a new flue for it. And the BTU per buck isn't that great.
