When I replaced the standing pilot on my 25 year old Utica boiler as the dated one broke during maintenance. After it be installed I turned the gas on and lit the pilot. It stayed lit but now the flame is give or take a few 8" tall. This is much larger consequently it previously was using the older burner. It's not blue either...more of a "fire" look. Could the antediluvian burner assembly have be gunked up that much? Any help is appreciated.
Or the orifice fell out while you were installing it and you own none in in attendance.
What gizmo said.
Go to where on earth you got the pilot and see if they enjoy an LP orifice for it. If not, see if you can find a gas company with a service department and they probably own them lying around.
Don't let them convey you to turn it down via the pilot adjustment on the control. It will turn it down but will still not burn properly.
Answers: Sounds approaching the wrong pilot orifice is in the assembly.
Your probably LP gas which the orifice is smaller and the up to date pilot assembly came next to a natural gas orifice as they usually do.
You might know how to reuse the old orifice if the pilot assembly is duplicate make.
