They have an odor resembling old wood. You interest when you raise the lid on them. Does anyone own a solution for this without my have to replace all the wood? I would approaching to use them for storage. Thank you.
Answers: get some underground store moisture absorber - comes in a small can...It will run away the musty smell. You may want to drill a small hole from the box into the wall to check for moisture or rot - sometimes with window, there are moisture/energy leak, make sure you dont enjoy one. If you determine that it's just a musty smell & not moisture contained by the walls, fill the hole beside a wood putty.
Try putting cedar chips in them.
