It does not have a freestyle back-up (yes, I am sure) because the building has a generator that keep the smoke detectors working in satchel of a power failure. Help! It is driving me crazy!

All of the intricate wired detectors have battery-operated back ups surrounded by them. Check to see if it is 9volt or the newer ones use some kind of long enduring battery. If it is taken loose, and it is still beep then short of a supernatural event, that is to say it. If it is beeping every once within a while, then to be precise an indication the battery is dying.
