I live in an old(40's era) home that still have knob and tube wiring structure(mostly). The previous owners did a touch update about 25 years ago surrounded by the kitchen area. Numerous problems: The 220 outlets for my glass ac's have just this minute stopped working. I had a service check and the dated breakers were hot, but no power to the outlets. I carry some of the other breakers that want to flip often too. (do breakers really humiliate each time they flip?)
I can't afford a full rewire right immediately because we just finally have the house reroofed(2 years after Katrina), and I had to hold those holes fixed before I could turn to inside repairs.
For the 220 outlets, would yould suggest running external lines; conduit, from the service box for a temp fix; 1 year, earlier I can start to be able to afford through wiring?
How doyou find someone who can do a post like that?

If you thnk you can afford monthly payments, talk to a few electrical contractors. Maybe they can work out a simple transmittal plan to pay for rewiring your house.
The old-fashioned post and tube system is far too dangerous to even play next to!!!
Another option would be to rewire the central circuits, like the furnace, stove, and wash machine. If here are outlets that don't work, just cartridge them off and don't use them. Find those breakers, turn them sour, and tape them stale. You can fix them later. It's true that as breakers hang on to kicking off, the spring inside them get weaker.

There is zilch technically wrong with running short-term conduit externally. By code, though, it would have to be rigid, a bit than EMT. Any electrician or electrical contractor could do the work.
The loss of power to the AC, but with hot breakers, sounds as if you own at least one raining circuit. Turn off every current-using device within the house, and watch your electric meter. If it is turning, within is current leakage. You could determine where on earth by turning the breakers off, and turning them rear on one at a time.
Breakers can get out of kilter after abundant uses. When i have experienced this, they own gone towards the sensitive side.

Talk near them about doing the work surrounded by stages as you can afford it. I am an electrical contractor and I work with individuals that way adjectives the time. A good contractor can lend a hand you out with getting the high-status things done first, without doing makeshift work which will be wasteful contained by the long run. There is seldom a need to repay for temporary work which will a short time ago be tore out later. Have the work done right the first time. Don't try to amass money by hiring an unqualified handyman. Get a qualified and licensed electrician. They are cheaper in the long run.

If your main panel is 25 years frail or older, you will probably want to update it. A contractor may be capable of use your existing breaker for a temporary circuit. The conduit outside is not a problem. You can run EMT outdoors as long as you use the right fittings. Your best bet is to contact a contractor surrounded by your area and find out what your option and cost will be.... most will give free estimates.
