I found a guy on craigslist that works for himself in the St. Louis area. Well he come out and replaced the fan in an hour. Then it took him another hour to check my home level and add some freon. He charged $25 trip fee plus $75 an hour. Freon be $35 a pound with 4 pounds used apparently. The fan assembly be $95. Was I hosed, or was this a fair price?

Sounds pretty likely. thats alot less than we charge in NY . If you verbs to gets freon leaks contained by future consider replacing the AC equipment with contemporary R-410 refrigerant because the govt. is banning all mature R-22 freon after the year 2010. It will become very expensive and obselete. It;s bad for the environment.

4 pounds of refrigerant? you must have be bone dry. maybe expect another fill subsequent yr if it were that low. refrigerant doesnt vaporize, it only leak out. next time, have them do a dribble check or put in some leak-fix.
