I bought an antique dining set of mahogany the chairs wobble and squeek when you are sitting on them. How can I fix this without devaluing the set.
Answers: If you are, or know a wood worker, ask them to reglue and clamp the joint. Use a good woodworkers cement, like Elmers.
Keep the chairs clamped for at tiniest 24 hours, unclamp, and enjoy. This will not devalue the piece, and the chairs will be nice and solid.
Do NOT include screws! Also, if the chairs are taken apart for the reglue process, fashion sure you save them and reinstall the course they were. In other words, hang on to the old hardware surrounded by place.
best advice is to attain a cabinetmaker to tighten or replace the screws. but formerly this , try sprinkling a little talcum powder surrounded by between the loose joints. you would be surprised how it stops the squeaks, ( works on squeaky floorboards too!) cheers. :)
