After I finished I tested it out and found that the light switch wouldn't control that outlet any more. I go back to take home sure everything was correct and it looked close to it. I used the same switch as the elderly one, just a different color. Please Help!
The connection (wire) could be broken or the breaker tripped. If it tripped, bring care surrounded by flipping it back on especially if the box within the wall is metal instead of plastic.
is within power on the outlet , or not ?

Answers: Just a guess here. You didn't break past its sell-by date the jumper tab between the hot flex screws on the latest receptacle. Usually one half of a receptacle is switched and the next of kin is live all the time. In that bag, there is a small tab between the brass colored screw that must be broke off. Don't break the tab on the silver screw side where on earth the white wire is connected. Look at the mature receptacle if you still have it.
