Answers: Various possibilities:
Windows: Check under window, any dampness on the walls, do the seal where the windowpane meets the wall look OK on the outside.
Ceiling: Any stains on the ceiling, could indicate a soak above.
Outside walls: Any stains at the top of the walls - could indicate blocked or leakey guttering
outside walls generally - any staining - could indiacte hose pentetration through the wall - could depend on its construtcion. Pointing / rendering etc on outside walls look Ok?
Loft space - If you have access to loft space check no smell up here, if there is investigate further (Caution re where on earth you stand!).
Bathroom: Sealent where tub / shower meets wall within good condition, sooner look under tub
Kitchen: Again sealent where sink meet wall, in righteous condition, does under the kitchen sink smell, any sign of condensation.
If none of above give you a organize, check under a floor baord, try close a window rather, does it smell under here, is the wood in righteous nick particualrly where on earth the floor joists enter an outside wall.
Plumbing / federal heating, no leak
Flooring - any areas of vinyl flooring etc where river could have get under it but not smooth to evaporate.
Investigate as soon as possible, wet rot is rather easy to fix, cut out the diluted bits and replace. Dry rot if it gets hold can cost like mad to fix. It's a fungus and will grow through walls insearch of wood to destroy.....
If surrounded by doubt consult a builder you trust.
Might be dry-rot in the woodwork.
