Large pieces of wood and ran them on a track similar to a closet door track and the owners be able to slide the wooden coverings into place to block reading light or let it within whenever they wanted. I be wondering if anyone had some planning for modifying this so tha the track could run on the wall rather than from floor to celing since I don't want it to lug up that much room. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Answers:    What do you mingy by "traditional blinds" exactly? There are so many kind of blinds and window coverings now, that the choices really are endless. Are you definitely sure that none of the options available will come across your needs and dreams?

I'd recommend checking out a place that does custom blinds to catch some ideas. Some places, close to Next Day Blinds, will make the blinds for you to your exact measurements. I know the Next Day Blind company have optional installation - so you can install it yourself or enjoy them do it. It's up to you.

While you're there, if you're sure that you want to do something completely "untraditional", ask around at the custom blinds shop how they would move about about building something approaching that. It's always apposite to go to professionals to gain their opinion. They may even sustain you come up with something even more innovative.

Just from your impression, I think topping bad a blind system like that near a cornice (see here: http://www.nextdayblinds.com/photo_galle... would look really nice.

Best of luck with your project!
