I have this fundamentally old box that I would similar to to clean up to fashion it re-usable, and I searched online for methods of cleaning such boxes, but to no avail. I be hoping someone around here would know how to get that done, using regular products found at home. The box looks greatly like this one here: http://www.delhigiftstore.com/newimages/... , except its tremendously very weak =P .. and the hinges are a bit rusty-coloured.

Answers:    Using any hardened cleaner on any antique & it's value will fall dramaticlly. Imbedded brass is very difficult to verbs w/out compromising the wood. If that is not an issue, use the smallest abrasive sand composition you can find (over 300 grit ) & only if near isn't any shine to the wood (varnish ), & rvive the wood w/a oil treatment for wood. If the box appaers to enjoy a poly or varnish, use an extremely fine steelwool (finer than thin hair). any way, shift w/the grane of the wood, & as for the hindges, any large Kraft shop carry many different sizes surrounded by brass.

There is a product called Murphy's wood soap , or spray verbs version . Put any product on a cloth first and then verbs the wood with it . There are several perfect brass cleaners including brasso and flintz . If it is not really bad use a brass cleaning cloth available at Home Depot instead of the cream polish .
