This is an old home (100 yrs) and the wood screws that hold the eyeshade door retractor (what's the correct name for that?) in place are no longer functioning because too much wood have fallen out where they are affixed. How can I repair this?
My wife suggested epoxy. Comments?
I've considered larger screw but I'm not sure if this is possible since there is not a lot of bits and pieces remaining on the flange.
Ideas?

THEY ARE MOST OFTEN REFERRED TO AS "PNEUMATIC DOOR CLOSERS"
I used wood putty, filler. It worked great and is stronger than the wood. I hold also used it on door hinges where the screw came loose.
I fill it, permit it dry and then drill it for the screws. I haven't have one come out like that.
And you might want to invest in a spring and secure to keep the door closer from being yank by the wind.
Good Luck
Answers: Use a wood golf tee. the hard wood and shape make them excellent to use for this. get long ones 3" or so. Drive them into the hole then break them rotten. They hold great. I work Maintenance and always carry some tees contained by my bag just for that application.
take a small piece of wood,in the region of the size of the screw and drive those into the original screw holes with a tack hammer, then re-install your door retractor. Use wood filler. Elmer's makes a devout one and it hardens quickly. Let it coagulate and then re-drill the holes.
