We rent a older house and near is newer windows through out the undamaged house. I don't know where else we would be loosing the hot nouns so fast and I know the price of the gas is going up. will it back to put plastic on the windows any path? or is there any other design of what I can do to save money for warmness with out frezzing . and It may nouns dumb but If I turn up the heat on a highly developed temp and it heats the house up will that minister to keep the furance from kicking within more often.sometimes near these older houses you never know what to do. to hold them warm.
On a cold day...put your appendage down near electrical plugs on the outer walls...if it feel cold there...likelihood are you are loosing heat out the wall plugs. You can buy insulation covers that jump in at the back plug plate...real effortless to pull sour cover..put in insulation wad...put cover back on. Also check to be paid sure doors have moral seals and are closed biddable.

Have the owner of the house grasp the furnace cleaned and inspected. The filter will also need to be changed. These are things that should be done twelve-monthly and improve the helpfulness (cost to run) of the furnace.

Plastic on the windows does give support to as it cuts out drafts if there are any. You could also close bad rooms and the vents to rooms that aren't used. Put those little long stuffed things on the bottoms of doors to also hang on to out drafts. And last but not lowest possible, dress more warmly and drop the heat a degree or two.

Oh, and you could also install a programmable thermostat, which you can program to preserve the house cooler when you aren't at home (like work and school hours) and heat the place back up up to that time you get home. I'm a not greatly handy girl, and I installed one in my finishing house. The one I got be even programmable to make the heat schedule different for the weekend. I construe it cost about $30. I'm sure I save that in the first month.

polite luck
Answers:    I know you are renting but check the insulation contained by the attic and if there is not plenty split the cost with the proprietor and blow cellulose in the attic it is an assured diy project. The higher you set the thermostat the more the furnace will run and the more money it will cost.
