Hello,
I am trying to add a receptacle in the vicinity a new work box that currently have a single-pole switch in it that controls a ceiling fixture.
I open up the switch box and saw two black wires connected to the switch, two white wires spliced together and two grounds spliced together with a pigtail connecting to the switch.
I am trying to integer out how to get power to my latest receptacle using this switch's wiring, as its location is extremely convenient to the installation of the strange box. I do not want the switch controlling the outlet, but I wouldn't really mind if the outlet was split, if i.e. the only means of access.
It seems similar to I have tried everything and I would really appreciate some assist.
Thank you very much.
Answers: The switch box have 1 black (hot) 1 white (neutral) and 1 green (ground) wire coming into it.
The fixture (light) have 1 black wire and 1 white telecommunication running from it to the box (there may also be a green (ground wire))
The switch is between the incoming hot wire and the fixture.
The white wires are spliced. That completes the circuit when the switch is closed.
Use a circuit tester to find which one of the black wires is Hot.
The unresponsive black wire go to the fixture.
Run a black jumper flex from the hot one on the switch to the new outlet. Run a white pullover wire from the spliced nouns to the neutral pole on the outlet.
Add a ground jersey from the outlet to the ground (existing) terminal at the box.
Good luck
If the box is not big enough for a receptacle and a switch, they brand a receptacle that has a switch on one partially of it. The wiring principle would be roughly speaking the same. Hot to hot and Neutral to Neutral, Ground to Ground
Simple fix. Mount your topical box, pull a piece of lead that matches the flex size being used between the boxes and game the colors. Your black wire will step on the brass screw on receptacle. Inside the switch box tie your new white rope with existing whites, exposed ground with grounds, and your black flex with the other black wires. Have fun !
