Answers:    You need the model number.
You can find that on the dub plate usually located on the side the connections are on.
One ton = 12,000 BTU's
The 6th and 7th digit indicate the BTU
For instance a 38AN036--- is 36,000 BTU = 3 ton
A 38AN030--- is 30,000 BTU = 2.5 ton
