How To Cut A Bureau? i bought a 40" sony plasma and i want to put it...

i bought a 40" sony plasma and i want to put it over my bureau (with mirror on it), but the height of the tv go 3 inches into the bureau, which is not alot since the bureau is 73" tall....the bureau have 5" on top before it go into the mirror....so my question is.....how can i cut 3 inches past its sell-by date the top of this bureau, and make it look even and nice.
