We have a wooden porch with double glazed window. We need to paint it before the summer is finished. What do we call for to do to prepare the wood? Do we need to sand it or could we just paint straight over the existing paint? Also what type of paint do we use? Is in that anything else I need to know - I am a complete novice. Any proposal would be greatly appreciated
Answers: You need to sand down the existing paint, clean sour any loose pain, sweep off any dust wipe down next to a lithely damp cloth. Put some masking cassette around the edge of the glass so the paint does not turn on it.
What ever colour you decide to use, use a corresponding undercoat so for white gloss finish use a white undercoat, for black add footnotes to finish use a Gray. There are not many different undercoats to choose from as far a colour is concerned so white would do for yellow etc, and Gray for poorly lit colours like midnight blue.
Use external Gloss paint.
it is not necessary to sand it but you should purloin a wire brush to it to remove the loose paint.I would use an OIL based paint and make the addition of some "penetrol" to the paint to help it flow better and reduce the "brush" and "roller" grades.
Depending on the color it is and the color you are going to paint, you might need to use a primer, KILZ or Bullseye are the better primers. The paint stores can tint the primer slightly. Either way it will stipulation 2 coats of paint for the best results.
