length x depth x average depth x 7.5 will give you how many gallons for Rectangular Pools

Round, Oval & Free-form Pools - aver. length x aver. girth x aver. depth x 5.9

so william your pool must only be like 4" wide if you only have 980 gallons contained by a 12 X 32 pool
