try the reset button on the bottom and if make a humming noise when you turn it on. the blades might be stuck with something. draw from something like a stick and try to move the blades with it rotten. they're supposed to spin freely when they're off. if they don't spin they're stuck and that's why the disposal is shutting off. try to take the blades to spin freely and it'll work again.

in addition to the reset button in that should be a spot for an Allen key on the bottom of the disposer. unplug the unit and put contained by the Allen key and make sure it will turn freely both directions. if it wont here is an obstruction in the component that needs to be removed while the unit is still unplugged

Answers:    Nicole, if you can here humming noise it is getting power, I would think you enjoy small metal object blocking cutter blades. Get flash light and look down the space for blockage. Make sure disposal is turned off. Also you can try turning disposal, from bottom with allen wrench
