I'm trying to make the DIY vs outsourcing finding on my deck. Due to its current state, I know I have to completely strip it and start from score (did my homework already on this). I know the staining isn't a big deal, but I'm trying to amount out how much time I'm talking give or take a few if I prep it myself.
It has Flood CWF on it, which I've hear is tough to get sour. I tested a couple treatments of stripper on a small section, and it didn't do the mission. Of course, this was lacking using a powerwasher and it wasn't a very thorough oral exam. My hope is that two treatments of stripper and low power pressure washing, followed by pallid sanding will do the trick.
The deck is almost 300sqft, has no fencing, and also has railing next to 1" squared poles every 5" or so. The part that worries me the most are these vertical rail. I think they will be tough to completely strip, and sand may be very time consuming.
Just hoping someone who have undertaken a similar favour can comment on the timeline
Answers: The flood cwf was a accurate product..however there is no stipulation for a stripper at all..a flawless pressure washer alone will "burn " it right off of the surface and the upper cloak..I am a 37 year experienced painter and have done hundreds of these..You can power dry-clean it in sooner or later..let it dry 24 hours and tolerate the burrrs stand up and dry from power washing later run a random orbital sander over the surface once dried..purely enought to lay the burrs down with 180 grit pad..sweep it off and dust it all right..then simply supply another stain/sealer to it...I am well au fait with cwf both hose down and oil base formulas..they will burn off the deck short strippers ...You can do this project in 2 to 3 days max..apply unsullied cwf or cuprinol , both avaialble at Sherwin Williams..apply with a adjectives bug sprayer..zap ..u are done
the question is do you want to work that knotty or watch someone else do it
1. its going to hold you probably 2 to 3 weeks to do your self considering you probably don't have adjectives the tools or access to the right chemicals
2 a professional has these things and will probably do the position in 3 to 5 days
and its going to come down to how much is your time worth
