My lovely cat has used the door frames of my apartment as scratch posts; I have to repair the reduce to rubble without replacing the door frames and be wondering what could be done. I am not entirely sure that merely painting over the prejudice will do the trick since they are rather gaping scratches.
Thank you adjectives in mortgage!!
Answers: Assuming it's a wood door frame:
Get some wood putty. Use a putty knife to infill the scratch, like frosting a cake (sort of). Press the putty into the scratch. Let it dry. Sand the putty down using medium to fine grit sandpaper. Repeat putty simply if necessary. Prime paint, consequently final paint ENTIRE door frame.
Wood putty is a standard product. Ask for it at Home Depot or your local hardware store.
Wood putty is difficult to work with, but is a virtuous answer. Instead, when I deal near problems like this surrounded by rental apartments, I use "joint compound, aka tape compound". Get a small bucket of this from any hardware/home improvement store. There's a "light" / "speedy drying" type, I use this one. Buy a putty knife, and spread this compound onto the scratch. Allow to dry completely. Then sand until smoothe, and repeat the process if necessary 1 more time. Then paint.
