My four-year-old son thought that he'd be funny and hang on the door knob of his bedroom door. In doing this, he have stripped all the hinge holes. What is the best mode to repair these holes so that I can still be able to screw the hinge back surrounded by and utilize the same door? I don't want to hold to replace the door. If it matters, it's a solid door; not one of the hollow ones.
since it is a sollid door, and the screw that they normally use are in the order of 1 " long, then you can replace them whith longer screw. What works good would be 1 1/2" or 2" sheetrock screw, even longer if you have to.
A righteous method to use is to fill the holes near wood glue and wooden matchsticks or some other similar stuff. After it dries , cut off the excess and re-install the hinge and screw that were in that.
Easy enough?
Answers: There are tools made for exactly that. They comes as a tackle with a mitt held reamer (and a power drill reamer) that you use to enlarge respectively screw hole into a a pointy conical hole. The kit also includes a bunch of hardwood pointed cones made to fit tightly within that hole. Enlarge the holes and glue within the cones. Now you have adjectives holes filled next to solid hardwood. When the glue is dry hold the door hinge in place and use a drill bit to breed new screw holes within the place where the weak screws be. Reinsert the screws and you are fixed and set for the next disaster.
