How do you burn up an A/C compressor? I live in an apt that was built surrounded by the early...

I live in an apt that was built surrounded by the early '70's. The unit have an ancient Chrysler AirTemp a/c unit. Furnace is new. The section leaks freon and has to be charged by maintence something like once a month. I know it's illegal to keep charging it, but they don't seem to be to care. Is there something that I can do to aid the condensor/compressor to finally bite the dust? My electric bill is enormous because it runs 24/7 to keep the house around 72 degree. Any ideas?
72!! You must be freezing!! Run it up to 75-76 and give the poor behind the times thing a break! Not to mention your electric bill! You could call the "EPA" and report them. That would solve your problem lacking you having to break the law. Good luck!

This worked for me. agree to the temperature get to just about 80 degrees in your house. Then ring them and say that the unit be making sparks like it's going to catch a fire. When they come out, show them how hot it is inside. But turn it support on right before they come so they'll think it be on all the time, but that it's just not cooling. hang on to doing this. Evrytime they sy they have fixed it and to let it run, turn it past its sell-by date right after they leave and let it catch hot again. They're not going to stay there all morning and see if it gets cool. try it. It may work for you like it did for me. nick an ice pick or a B.B. gun an shoot the outside coil WARNING there will be a cloud of gas so you want to bring back the hell out of there quick the icepick is cheap an assured to hide just poke a accurate size hole in the OUTSIDE unit best of luck and dont capture caught theirare laws aganst these things you know
Answers:    yeah use an ice pick. that will be smart. It shouldnt be to much longer and the part will start to do what they call "slugging", basically the liduid refrigerant will posterior up into the suction line and the compressor is only designed to compress gas not liquid. You could also tell them that you know if the section has a leak and they are required by the EPA to fix a seep after adding a pound or more in a one seaon time without fixing the leak. It carry a 25,000.00 fine to knowingly vent refrigerant into the air. If they havent fixed a ooze it is probally due to the fact the leak is surrounded by the coils itself and that is only competent to be repaired by replacing the unit. Good Luck... might want to even call the just housing athourity in your area.
