I live in an elder house with mostly replaced plumbing and fairly hard river - no water softener. Our kitchen sink faucet is merely about three years outmoded, but it sometimes squeals very loudly when the river is running. If we turn it down to low flow, it stops. I've checked the screen, and fiddle a bit, but nothing help. It is definitely a faucet hum, not a pipe noise. Any thinking?
Please help past it drives me crazy....
Answers: You're likely to fix the crash if you rebuilt the faucet. Not too difficult. There are a few different configurations (ie single-handle, two bar, washerless, etc) but it's a matter of getting the get & model, getting a rebuild tools, and installing it. If it's a plain vanilla faucet with washers, you'd bring the individual parts at a hardware store. You would clean rotten any buildup you come across in the process (and know what to do the subsequent time).
Maybe soak your faucet in boiling vinegar if you reason it's build up. I've heard of this working to bring rid of hard river build up in a dishwasher.
