Answers:    If adjectives the gasket is off of the door, next I would use a stiff wire brush any on a drill or by hand. If not use a sharp putty run through. Should wear eye and mask protection. This should receive it down to the bare metal. When you buy a replacement gasket or rope, I would form sure the cement for the gasket is bought also.
