I have the 1.25 socket for the nut holding the flywheel on, but I don't know how to maintain the motor from turning so I can get the nut stale.
Answers: You can use a strap wrench to hold the flywheel from turning, or you can get a flywheel wrench from your local Briggs & Stratton service center. You would involve to specify make, model, & serial number to carry the right one. DO NOT use a screwdriver through the cooling fins on the flywheel, as this could cause the fins to break stale, throwing the flywheel out of balance.
A simple strap wrench could be made near a leather belt and a block of wood.
Cant you just remove the starter to replace the "starter gear"?
