How do i install a replacement skylight? ...
It's fairly smooth to do....just did a few window for a customer. As a previous poster said, Lowe's or Home Depot have classes for free that show how to do it and DIYnet.com have tutorial videos of how also. http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/pac_ctnt/t... It deeply involves measuring the behind the times windows between the side panel of the frame and top to bottom...buy a window or enjoy one made that is unbelievably close or exactly the same dimensions...painstakingly remove the trim moldings with a putty cut and prybar...remove the old window and parting strips...install the modern window...shim if essential and make sure it's even before attaching it near screws into the sides...replace the trim and caulk the exterior edges. If you cannot find an exact or close clash window, you may enjoy to do some modification to the window space and adjust or cut any trim as necessary. Also, add on insulation as needed between the new windowpane and side/top of framing.
Home Depot and Lowes own "Do-it-Yourself" classes and instructors on site all the time...
When I own to have something done, I budge by there and they can initiate me.
Also if you have a contractor friend, ring up him for some help. You may owe him one, but it's worth it to enjoy good window.
Answers: If in the UK you can't......it have to be certified now.....bit more Nanny state.
