How do I fix my chest freezer. It is six foot long, it runs but does not cool. The table lamp on the inside works.?
The first item you want to do is clean the coils on the back of the freezer. Hopefully you can move it. Just vacuum it bad, or start with a dust rag, but take care not to bend the coils (they are pretty sturdy though). If they are clean, you may need to own the freon re-charged, just like a coup¨¦.
Find a good appliance repair place that gives estimates. Take into details the age of the freezer and whether or not it is really working efficiently to begin near, the cost to repair may be more than replacing in the long run.
Sorry could be anything. You would have to start trouble shooting.
First you see if the compressor has power. If it does after you know it's dead.(cheaper to replace freezer) That's if the compressor not running. If it's running and doesn't cool. Something else it wrong with the internal system perchance even the gas. Still cheaper to buy a used freezer on craigslist.
If it doesn't have power you have to track down why.
Maybe a impossible wire. (easy fix)
Maybe a thermostat. (easy fix if you can find another one)
Seeing it's a chest freezer and the lower cost i would just replace it.
Answers: First thing I would do is what the Sears Maintenence man did at my house and that is verbs the bottom kick plate on the front and pull the refrigerator out from the wall and vacuum everything. It cost me $75.00 to find out going on for this one. Good luck.
It needed the coolant filled up. possible a leak from one of the lines, it it uses Freon as a coolant you may have serious problems finding anyone to fix it. check to be sure the lover motor is running. This is not a do it yourself project. With the cost of service on these things verses the cost of a new element, replace it.
