How do I find a Burglar/Fire Protection System Installer not connected to Monitoring Company? I would like to enjoy an alarm system installed in my house...

I would like to enjoy an alarm system installed in my house using an independent contractor so I can buy a better system for cheap and afterwards negotiate my monitoring contract with a company. My electrician say he doesn't do it. Is this unheard of in the industry? What mode of contractor would do this kind of installation?
