We seem to hold a spot of woodworm in one of our upstairs floors. What is a cost-effective and unproblematic way to treat it?

Quite simple, most hardware stores sell proprietary wood worm treatments. Paint it on the artificial area as planned on the can instructions. Job done. You will need to check both sides of the floor boards and the surrounding timbers to gross sure you have get the lot. The other way is to remove the artificial timber and burn it, replacing it with pre-treated boards. Either road is not difficult.

Just another thought, check the backs and underneaths of any wooden furniture contained by the room to make sure in that is no woodworm there any. Same treatment if there is.

Answers:    Yes - inject woodworm fluid into the flight holes (bear surrounded by mind that the holes mean that the worms own flown). Make sure there is no waterlogged as this encourages the beasties, and check that nearby hasn't been any structural hurt.
