I am trying to install a ceiling fan in where on earth a light fixture was. I also want to install a dimmer. The electric wiring that was for the light be connected to a switch and when I took down the light there are three sets of wires (three black, three white and three ground). The white wires and black wires be connected to each other and then to the night light wires. I installed. I have another ceiling fan within my bedroom and that has 4 wires (black, white, ground and red. Can I connect to the old electric wiring or do I need to try and run a new strip and how would I connect it to a switch so it has power? I am trying to install a control switch that controls the lights and fan.
Answers:    You can install the adherent where the light is and use the current line, but you will not be able to do anything but turn the entire set-up (fan & light) on or off. In proclaim for it to work the way you want, you will need the secondary wires. Without access to the attic, you are not going to be able to run the wire you involve to get this to work properly. Your best bet is to buy a fan that have the remote control with it. You may be able to purchase the remote separately and use them on an existing enthusiast. I've never tried to purchase just the remote, but it may be available.
