Last night my cold dampen faucet broke in the tub. The knob newly keeps turning and turning and no river will come out.

Answers:    Faucet handles are made of a outstandingly cheap metal called "pot metal". If you wet is even a bit basic or sharp (ie. pH is not 7.0) you will find they wear out. The shaft on the faucet is splined, and the inside of the handle is splined as resourcefully. The splines on the inside of the faucet handle own probably corroded away to nothing. Home Depot and Lowe's both convey a wide inspection of replacement handles to fit most adjectives brands of faucets. You should be able to find the brand of faucet somewhere on the shower pedal or the faucet handles.

Once you own your replacement handle, in attendance is a small screw in the middle of the switch which screws into the shaft of the faucet. These screw are usually brass, and just as the faucet corroded, so do the screw. Careful turning these screws!!!! Make sure your screwdriver is set capably into the grove. Remove the handle and put on a up to date one (I suggest doing both hot and cold, since the hot one is about to run too.) Also, replace those two screws. Stainless steel screw are a better choice, but they won't come with the handle. You'll have to travel to the hardware department for them. I believe the are 10-32 screws, but run an old one beside you just within case. Good Luck.
